December 28, 2016

The meeting started at 7:07 PM with­ 22 members present.  President Ed Nichols welcomed everyone to the meeting.

Secretary’s Report

Kathy Kenney read the minutes from last month’s meeting.  A motion was made to accept the minutes by                 Roland Gaumont; seconded by John Jalbert; and the motion carried.

Treasurer's Report

Paul Gardner read the Treasurer’s report, explaining how much money came in and bills paid this past month.  As always, the Treasurer’s report is available to view in the glass case by the front door of the club.  A motion was made to accept the Treasurer’s report by Don Chouinard; seconded by Dan Begin; and the motion carried.

NEW MEMBERS:     1 adult signed up for club membership at tonight’s meeting.  A motion was made to accept the new member by Don Chouinard; seconded by Don Morin; and carried. As usual, new members must complete the process of joining the club by coming to the club next Saturday for a “walk-through” to learn club rules and receive their membership cards.  If you want to qualify to shoot in the indoor range, bring your firearm with you on Saturday morning.  Please meet Ed Nichols at the club at 8:00 AM on Saturday morning or make arrangements to do this another Saturday if this one is not convenient.


Falling Plates (steel-plate shooting event):  Takes place on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon – rain or shine – on the back range.  We have a steady attendance at this weekly event and it is a lot of fun.  Come out and join us! Cost:  $5:00 per person.  Hand guns only.  No hollow point ammo; no magnums.  Open all winter.  Open to the public.

Steel Plate Challenge:  Takes place on the second Sunday of the month (over at the Plate Range) from 9 AM to 12 noon.  $5 to participate.  This is open to members only. The next Sunday event is January 8th.

Indoor Range:  John Chandler reported that we will have the ventilation ordered soon.  We are working on lanes 9 and 10 to get them up and running.  We are also working on the automatic target carry system so that it will be usable for the new backstop system.  We will be getting the back wall torn down soon. Thank you to all the volunteers who have given so much of their time and effort to help get this indoor range all ready to go.   Please consider signing up to help!

Trap Shooting:  Regular Trap Shooting takes place on Wednesdays from 2 PM to 7 PM and on Sundays from 9 AM to 1 PM .  Cost:  $3 a round for members; $4 a round for non-members.  This is open to the public.

Trap Winter League:  This month, there is shooting for qualifications for the winter league shooting.  We will be putting the teams together in January.  We are hoping to have four teams with 6 men on each.  We are looking for more people to join!!! We specifically need at least 2 MORE people to sign up to complete our teams.  Please consider coming around and signing up.

Air Gun Program:  There will be no Friday night Air Gun Program until at least the beginning of February.  We will let you know when it is ready to get started again.

Sunday Evening Postal:  Sunday evenings, 5:30 PM to 9 PM.  John Chandler will let members know when we will be starting this up.  More details soon.

Auburn Rifle Club:  This takes place on Thursday nights from 6:30 to 9:00 or so.  This is for precision rifle shooting.  Local towns compete against each other.  Shooting is in the prone and standing positions.  Rifles and scopes are available for anyone who would like to come out and try this.


Friends of NRA: Chip asked members to consider attending these meetings on the second Tuesday of the month every month.  January’s meeting is on the 10th at 6:30 PM.   This group organizes the annual fund raiser/banquet and other fundraising events throughout the year.  We would appreciate ANY volunteers to come to the meeting and help out us – even if you can’t make all of the monthly meetings.  There is something for everyone to do – help run the games at the annual banquet/help sell tickets/help clean up…everyone can do something so that this event continues as successful as it has been for the past few years.  We need you!

The State Grant Committee will be meeting January 29th!

12 Days of Christmas Raffle:  The Raffle is over.  Thank you to Mike at Coastal Defense for all his work to make this raffle go so well.  Financially:  We sold 553 tickets out of 700 tickets.  We made a net profit of $4,144.00.  We didn’t sell as many tickets this year but we got a very good deal from Coastal Defense on the guns so we still made a profit.  Next year we are hoping to increase ticket sales.  As always, our three top ticket sellers are recognized and awarded prizes as follows:

1st place ticket sales:   Dan Desjardins:  (sold 178 tickets)  Prize:  indoor/outdoor club membership

2nd place ticket sales:      John Jalbert:  (sold 56 tickets)       Prize:  outdoor club membership

3rd place ticket sales:      John Lipofski:  (sold 40 tickets)    Prize:  $50 towards club membership.

Ed Nichols thanked everyone for their efforts with the Raffle.  This is a great fund-raising event for our club.


Thank you note from Ed Stanhope: Chip Hedrick read a thank you note from Ed Stanhope for the cards sent on the club’s behalf in memory of Ed’s wife, Janet Stanhope, who passed away last month.  Thank you to Kathy Kenney and Ed Nichols for organizing and sending the cards to Ed.

CPR/AED Class:  Ed announced that the club will sponsor a CPR/AED Class on January 14th at 8 AM at the club.  Any member who would like to take it, the club will pay for it.   Please sign up with Sarah if you are interested in taking this class. There will no more than 30 people allowed in the class.  Call Sarah at:  207-576-5806 if you would like to sign up in the next two weeks.  The club will be purchasing at least one AED very soon to have on hand at the club.

Webmaster/E-mail manager:  Ed advised members that we are now working with a webmaster to try to get our website and email capacity functional. This month we will be sending out a newsletter VIA E-MAIL to help members stay informed of what is going on at the club and get members involved in club events.

Hunter Safety/Bow Hunter Safety Classes:  Mike Mayo advised members that we will be organizing these classes at the club in the upcoming spring.  Stay tuned for details!

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting by Don Chouinard; seconded by Dan Begin; and carried.  The meeting was adjourned at 8:08 PM.
