January 25, 2017

The meeting started at 7:01 PM with 25 members present.  President Ed Nichols welcomed everyone to the meeting.

Secretary’s Report

Sarah Hulbert read the minutes from last month’s meeting.  A motion was made to accept the minutes by John Jalbert; seconded by John Lipofsky; and the motion carried.

Treasurer's Report

Chip Hedrick read the Treasurer’s report, as Paul Gardner was not present at the meeting.  Chip explained the money coming in and bills being paid.  As always, the Treasurer’s report is available to view in the glass case by the front door of the club.  A motion was made to accept the Treasurer’s report by Ed Stanhope; seconded by Dan Begin; and the motion carried.

NEW MEMBERS:   7 adults initially signed up for club membership at tonight’s meeting. Roland Gaumont spoke on behalf of 3 of the adults who were unable to attend tonight’s meeting.  A motion was made to accept the new members by Ed Stanhope; seconded by John Jalbert; and carried. Chip Hedrick requested that we re-open the new member applicants portion of the meeting to accommodate another new member.  1 more adult member requested membership.  A second motion to accept new members was made by Dan Begin; seconded by Paul Raysik; and carried.  New members must complete the process of joining the club by coming to the club on February 4th for a “walk-through” to learn club rules and receive their membership cards.  If you want to qualify to shoot in the indoor range, bring your firearm with you on that Saturday morning.  Please meet Ed Nichols/Ed Stanhope at the club on Feb. 4th at 8:00 AM on Saturday morning or make arrangements to do this another Saturday if you cannot make it.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Falling Plates (steel-plate shooting event):  Paul Raysik reported that this event takes place every Saturday from 9 AM to 12 noon.  This event is open to the public. Cost:  $5.00.  Takes place rain or shine.  We have a heated club house down on the range so, if you only want to observe, you can stay warm!

Steel Plate Challenge:  No report on this event this month.

Indoor Range:  John Chandler reported that we will are continuing to work on the indoor range.  Ed Stanhope advised club members that lanes 8 – 10 in the indoor range are still closed until further notice.  We are still working on them.

Four Position Precision Rifle Shooting Matches:  The club is hosting two of these matches:  February 26th and March 26th from 8 AM to mid-afternoon.  Everyone is welcome to come by and observe these excellent shooters.

Trap Shooting:  Our regular Trap Shooting takes place on Wednesdays from 2 PM to 7 PM and on Sundays from 9 AM to 1 PM .  Cost:  $3 a round for members; $4 a round for non-members.  This is open to the public.

Trap Winter League:  We have 4 teams of 4 now shooting the winter league.  We are looking for more people to join!!! Please consider coming around and signing up.  If you have never shot trap and would like to try – come out and use the guns that we have in the safe just for people to borrow to try this sport out!  We have three adult shot guns and 2 youth models in the safe to get you started.  Any of our regular shooters will be glad to help you.

Air Gun Program:  No Friday night program until further notice.  We will let you know when it will reopen.

OLD BUSINESS

Friends of NRA: Chip Hedrick reported to members that the State Grant Committee meeting is coming up on Sunday, January 29th in Brewer, Maine.  One representative and a guest from each of the 6 committees in Maine will be present to determine how to distribute the approximate $100,000 in grant money to entities in Maine.   John Chandler and Bill Centra will be representing the Greater Androscoggin FNRA this year at the meeting.

This year we have applied for two grants which will be considered this weekend at the State Grant Committee meeting:

  1.   For “Ladies’ Day on the Range” to cover ammunition for pistols, rifles, and shot guns for the day at our club where we invite women who would like to learn to shoot or just experience shooting in a non-competitive environment.  Hopefully the grant will get approved to cover our day which will take place some time in May.

2. John Chandler wrote a grant request for indoor range improvements to try to finish off everything we need to do in our indoor range.

MONTHLY FRIENDS OF NRA MEETING AT THE CLUB:  The next Friends of NRA meeting will be held at the club on Tuesday, February 7th at 6:30 PM.  Anyone interested in attending this meeting will be very WELCOME!!!  This group organizes the annual fund raiser/banquet the club has in September every year as well as other fundraising events throughout the year.

NEW BUSINESS

ARCHERY AT THE CLUB! We are trying to bring archery back to our club.  Roland Gaumont (a club member who is involved in archery) will now be on the Board of Directors in charge of Archery.  We are going to be working with Roland to get an archery program held once a week at the club in the inside range.  Next month Roland will be part of the monthly committee reports so that he can advise members what the program will include, what the cost will be, and what night the archery event will take place at the club.

Webmaster/E-mail manager:  Ed advised members that Bob Harris and his son will be working on our website to get our events posted and keep everyone informed.

Club Newsletter: Sarah is working on getting a newsletter up and running which will be e-mailed to club members every month to let them know about upcoming events/how to contact board members/and weekly activities at the club.  Hopefully this will be going out in February.

Swap meet/Gun Show at the club:  Paul Raysik is in the organizational stages of putting together a one-day event at the club – on some Saturday before hunting season (September or early October?).  Initial estimates are $25 a table if you are interested in participating.  There will be a table for the ACFGA.  He was estimating there could be 14 or so tables.  We will have hotdogs, soda, and chips available for food.  More information as it becomes known and a date is chosen.

CPR/AED Class:  The club hosted this class on January 14th.  It was well-attended.  Ed Nichols asked club members if they would approve the purchase of two AEDs (with the money we recently made from the 12 Days of Christmas raffle).  We would put one at the main club house and one down on the range.  A motion was made to approve the purchase of 2 AEDs, total expense of both not to exceed $3000, by Ed Stanhope; seconded by Roland Gaumont; and the motion was carried.  Next month we will take the second necessary vote in order to move forward with the purchase.

Memberships for 2018:  These will be in the mail this week!  Don’t forget to sign the application and fill out your current NRA date of expiration when you send it in with your dues.

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting by Dan Begin; seconded by John Lipofsky; and carried.  The meeting was adjourned at 7:48 PM.

Respectfully submitted by S.L. Hulbert.
